DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Domestic Violence

1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in the United States have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner in their lifetime. (The Hotline DV Stats)

Domestic violence, or abuse, is patterned behavior by one intimate partner who aims to assert control over the other. It can include willful intimidation, physical assault, sexual assault, emotional abuse, and even financial abuse. Our team is here to help women and any children who may be experiencing domestic violence access safe and confidential shelter, as well as any resources they may need to heal.

SEXUAL ASSAULT

Sexual Assault

Every 68 seconds, an American is sexually assaulted. (RAINN)

The impact of sexual assault can be immense with many survivors experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms and moderate to severe distress. No one should have to face the aftermath of a sexual assault on their own. That’s where the Family Crisis Center comes in. We offer victims a safe, secure, and confidential area to seek justice. With a trained team of sexual assault advocates and medical professionals, survivors can comfortably have a rape examination completed. We also offer survivors an opportunity to have their voice heard through individualized counseling, support groups, and more.

HUMAN TRAFFICKING

Human Trafficking

In 2021, the state of Arkansas identified 74 cases of human trafficking resulting in 168 victims.

By law the United States defines human trafficking as the use of force, fraud, or coercion to compel a person into commercial sex acts, labor, or services against his or her will. The one exception involves minors and commercial sex. Inducing a minor into commercial sex is considered human trafficking regardless of the presence of force, fraud, or coercion. The Family Crisis Center offers free and confidential case management, legal advocacy and referral, therapeutic services, and much more to assist survivors in regaining their independence and rights.

Advocating for Survivors

Advocating for Survivors

Despite all the laws that are currently in place to protect women, the numbers for gender-based violence and sexual assault are harrowing.

At the Family Crisis Center, it is our goal to end violence like this against the women, men, and children in Northeast Arkansas. We work to provide education in our community, as increasing awareness on these topics is always one of our top priorities. We also advocate for survivors as they pursue justice and protection. From assistance seeking criminal charges to providing support for navigating the legal system to referrals to other community agencies, our team of advocates is here to help no matter the level of need

Mental Health Therapy

At the Family Crisis Center, we know that survivors can have a hard time coping with the unjust experiences they’ve been put through. The path forward may seem daunting, and we want to be a source of hope and healing. This is why we have a mental health therapist on staff that our clients can work with for free. Insurance is run when possible, but our clients can access this service at no cost to them.

Victim Advocacy

For those who are victims of sexual assault, we have a Rape Crisis Center. This is one of three locations in the state of Arkansas that does forensic exams on site. Our team works with on-call sexual assault examiners who come to our center to provide the exam. Our advocates also stay with you as needed for the whole process and will go to the hospital with any survivor who does not wish to be alone.

We know that access to resources is crucial for survivors seeking independence as they move into the next chapter of their life. This is why our team provides assistance in benefit enrollment. If survivors have children in need of support, we can help enroll you into the Arkansas WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program for assistance with food, formula, diapers, and more. We can also get our clients food stamps through the Arkansas Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

We know that transportation can be an issue for many, depending on the situation they are leaving. So when possible, we aim to provide transportation assistance. This can vary by client. We work to provide gas cards or will fill up a gas tank. We also work with Amtrak, Uber, Greyhound, and can sometimes provide financial assistance.
